WHEREAS Kids deserve the best start in school and the public health cuts have thrown the future of school nutrition programs that feeds 200,000 children, many who live in poverty, into uncertainty;
WHEREAS Doug Ford's government is reducing the number of public health units in the province to 10, down from 35, which means that there will be less support and services to keep our communities safe;
WHEREAS The Ford government is cutting $1 billion in public health funding over the next ten years;
WHEREAS Eliminating funding will mean devastating consequences and minimal resources for hundreds of public health services and programs in Toronto;
WHEREAS Evidence is clear that investing in preventative health care costs much less in the long term and only benefits people in local communities who can access the vital services that these programs and public health units provide;
WE THE UNDERSIGNED petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to call on the Ford government to reverse the callous and short-sighted cuts to Toronto Public heath, and instead listen to families, children, parents, experts and advocates and make things better for Ontarians, not worse.
