Ontarians who are sick need to be allowed to stay home without losing their wages or jobs.
The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that to protect the public, we must empower Ontarians to stay home when they are sick. With COVID-19 numbers at record high in Ontario, with the second wave well underway, it is critical that we make it easier for workers who are sick to stay home without risking losing their jobs and livelihoods.
When sick Ontarians are forced to work because they are worried about losing pay or their jobs, they will show up and risk infecting others on their commute to work, their colleagues at work, or clients they may be interacting with. We cannot take that risk.
The government needs to provide paid sick leave if they are truly committed to protecting the public, not just during the pandemic, but always.

WHEREAS the Ford government has made cuts to the mandatory paid sick days that workers had;
WHEREAS Ontario's workers were promised paid sick days months ago and have been failed once again;
WHEREAS we are seeing record high COVID-19 numbers as a result of the second wave
WHEREAS we have seen workers throughout the pandemic lose their jobs and livelihoods for choosing to stay home when battling COVID-19 to protect others;
WHEREAS we have seen workers have to give up their jobs to take care of their children who are either sick or dealing with virtual schooling;
WE THE UNDERSIGNED petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to not only reinstate the paid sick days to help workers navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, but permanently increase them to accomodate the challenges faced by workers.
