Stop the 2nd wave of COVID-19 in our Long-Term Care homes!
WHEREAS more than 60 people have died at Tendercare Living Centre during the 2nd wave of COVID-19 in Ontario;
WHEREAS long-term care residents have been especially vulnerable in the pandemic, with over 2,829 deaths across Ontario’s long-term care homes so far;
WHEREAS the Long-Term Care Homes Act’s Bill of Rights is supposed to guarantee the right for every long-term care resident to receive quality care and dignity of care.
WHEREAS previous governments have failed to resolve the underfunding and staffing shortage in Ontario’s long-term care system, making it harder to control the spread of COVID-19;
WHEREAS evidence is clear that removing profits in long-term care improves quality of care and working conditions.
WE THE UNDERSIGNED petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to call on the Ford government to stop the deadly 2nd wave of COVID-19 in long-term care homes by immediately sending in the military and Red Cross to homes in crisis; enforcing unannounced inspections, increasing staffing; providing infection control specialists to every home, providing independent management of homes in trouble, providing clear and transparent communications to residents and families; and providing a vaccine rollout plan with clear deadlines.
